What is Restoration Therapy?
Restoration Therapy (RT) is an approach to therapy and coaching that incorporates the fields of attachment theory, emotional regulation and mindfulness. RT helps clinicians and coaches quickly assess attachment patterns and the emotional history surrounding identity and safety, and how these emotions can lead individuals to become emotionally reactive (known as the pain cycle). Additionally, clinicians and coaches who use RT help people establish emotional self-regulation by building cognitive alternatives and “regulating truths” concerning their own identity and safety. This self-regulation then sets the stage for individuals to promote their own emotional stability and further positive impact on their relationships (known as the peace cycle). Finally, the RT model teaches mindfulness techniques to help individuals apply self regulation skills to new behaviors. The result of the Restoration Therapy process helps individuals move to their own self-awareness and toward cultivating deeper connection, trust and intimacy in their relationships.

After much hesitation about entering the entrepreneur world, I launched Oak and Stone Therapy, which has since grown into a group practice. My vision was to create a space where I could connect with and support clients who share similar lived experiences and identities.
My practice focuses on serving Asian American healers, creators, founders, entrepreneurs, artists, and public figures seeking to explore their inner lives. I specialize in working with adults and couples navigating complex family dynamics, codependent relationships, the challenges of balancing demanding careers and family life, the pressures of entrepreneurship in a hustle culture, creative and performance blocks, spiritual deconstruction and integration, and the exploration of racial, ethnic, gender, professional, and spiritual identities.
Alongside high-quality training and consultation, I believe that effective healing stems from personal work. As such, I am committed to the practices I guide my clients through. When your inner life is aligned, it positively impacts your external world. Clients often appreciate my direct, attentive, and holistic approach, which addresses the physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and multifaceted aspects of identity. I foster a creative and open therapeutic environment, allowing for dynamic, deep, and practical work.
I integrate all aspects of myself into my practice, whether in therapy, writing, or artistic expression. I am dedicated to fostering honest and sometimes challenging conversations that lead to authentic self-discovery. Together, we will engage in a process that may include laughter, tears, dreaming, and difficult dialogues, all aimed at nurturing your most authentic self. I believe that we are wired for connection but often violations of love and trustworthiness keep us in destructive patterns which cause disconnection from those we care mostly deeply for. In our work together, we will look to heal those violations and find new ways of relating.

» Brandi Smith and Heather Cawthon
Brandi M. Smith is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) and a partner in Sacred Space Counseling Center in Irving, TX. Brandi is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Texas Wesleyan University. Before becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor, Brandi served as a Special Education Teacher working with individuals and families facing seemingly insurmountable challenges. During this time, she discovered within the framework of a supportive relationship, her students/families were able to think outside the box and take risks to address their day-to-day difficulties. Brandi carries this same philosophy into the counseling room. She believes healing emerges as clients feel safe enough to take healthy relational risks, explore feelings associated with new patterns of interactions, and consistently practice these new ways of being in relationships. Brandi approaches her work with individuals from a systemic perspective believing that the individual both influences and is being influenced by the family system. She currently utilizes Restoration Therapy to work with individuals, couples, and families with relational issues and trauma.
Heather Cawthon is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and partner in Sacred Space Counseling Center, and adjunct faculty member at Dallas Baptist University. Heather previously served as the Clinical Director of Children’s Frist Counseling Center, a non-profit specializing in working with children and adult survivors of trauma and family violence.
